Aesthetic & Plastic Surgery · Face

A nose in harmony with your face.

Surgical reshaping for aesthetic or functional reasons. A premium procedure using modern techniques (closed, open, ultrasonic) - for patients who want a natural result, not a "done" look.

What It Is

What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is one of the most requested procedures in aesthetic surgery - a reshaping of the nose that can be:

  • Aesthetic: correcting the shape, size, dorsal profile (hump), tip, or width of the nostrils
  • Functional: correcting a deviated septum (septoplasty) for better breathing
  • Combined: both at the same time

At Amavita we use modern techniques - closed rhinoplasty (with no external marks) for small to moderate changes, and open rhinoplasty for more complex changes. The ultrasonic (Piezo) technique allows more precise shaping of the bone.

How It Is Done

The steps of the procedure.

01

Pre-operative consultation

Assessment of the nose, photographs from standard angles, optional 3D simulation. Discussion of your expectations and the technical options.

02

Anaesthesia

General anaesthesia. Our Amavita anaesthetist carries out the pre-operative assessment and stays with you throughout the procedure.

03

The procedure

Through a closed incision (inside the nostrils) or an open one (a small mark on the columella), the surgeon reshapes the bone and cartilage according to the plan. Duration: 2-3 hours.

04

Post-operative care

A splint is fitted for 7 days. You spend 1-2 hours in recovery, then move to your room. Mild swelling and bruising are normal.

Technical Details

Technical information.

Procedure duration 2-3 hours
Anaesthesia General
Clinic stay 1 night in clinic (recommended)
Recommended stay in Tirana 7-10 days (until the splint is removed and the final check)
Total recovery 7-14 days for the main recovery · 6-12 months for the final shape
Recovery

Recovery timeline.

Days 1-3

Swelling and bruising are at their most noticeable. Splint on the nose with tape over it. Breathing through the mouth. Complete rest, sleeping with your head elevated.

Week 1

The splint and packing are removed (usually on day 7). External swelling starts to reduce noticeably.

Weeks 2-4

Most patients return to activity and sedentary work. No sport or intense exercise. Internal swelling continues to reduce.

Months 1-3

The "just operated" look fades. You may resume light exercise. The shape starts to settle.

Final result

The final shape settles in 6-12 months (later at the tip, which holds swelling longest).

Ideal Candidate

Who is the ideal candidate?

Good candidates

  • Age 18+ (facial structure fully developed)
  • People with aesthetic or functional deformities of the nose
  • Patients with breathing difficulty from a deviated septum
  • Good general health
  • Realistic expectations - a natural result, not a "total transformation"
  • Willing to allow 7-14 days for recovery

This procedure is not for

  • Under 18 years old (bones still growing)
  • Active infections
  • Uncontrolled chronic conditions
  • Unrealistic expectations
  • Heavy smoking without stopping before the operation
  • Blood clotting problems

The final assessment takes place at the pre-operative consultation with the specialist.

Medical Transparency

Risks & contraindications.

As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Asymmetry
  • Prolonged swelling and bruising (usually resolves on its own within 2-4 weeks)
  • Breathing difficulty (correctable)
  • The need for a later correction (secondary rhinoplasty)
  • The standard risks of anaesthesia (very rare)

Any risk specific to your case is discussed in detail during the pre-operative consultation. Informed consent is provided in writing.

Frequently Asked Questions

The most frequent questions.

Is rhinoplasty done with closed and open techniques? +
Yes, both. Closed (with no external marks) for simple cases. Open (a small mark on the columella that fades over time) for complex cases.
Is it done with Piezo (ultrasonic)? +
Yes. The Piezo technique shapes the bone with ultrasound instead of a classic chisel - less swelling, less bruising, fewer complications.
Can a secondary (revision) procedure be done? +
Yes, but it is more complex. It is recommended to wait 12+ months after the first operation before discussing a revision.
How long does the "just operated" look last? +
Visible swelling fades within 2-4 weeks. The fully natural look is reached at 6-12 months.
Can I wear glasses after the operation? +
Not for 6 weeks (pressure on the nose). Use contact lenses or forehead-resting glasses supports.
Will I look different? +
Yes, noticeably. But the aim is for your face to look harmonious - not "a different face". A 3D simulation at the consultation gives you a realistic preview.
